Here's a fun Annie Sloan Chalk Paint project!

We had sheet metal cut to size for our picture frames.

Then we painted the sheet metal with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite--3 smooth coats.

The edges were painted in Emperor's Silk Red with clear and Dark wax and Barcelona Orange with clear and dark wax. So easy and soo fun!

And just to save you the $20--magnetic paint hasn't worked in my experience. That's why we've gone to sheet metal.

Graphite and French Linen Buffet

Here's one of my favorite pieces so far, and wouldn't you know it . . . I only had my camera phone and the worst lighting possible to gets photos!! So, I'm afraid these aren't the best photos, but I think you'll catch a glimmer of the prettiness of this piece . . .

Painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint 3/4 Graphite 1/4 French Linen and heavily distressed back to highlight the original dark wood stain.
I then added 3 coats of dark wax, dry brushing the wax for a heavily antiqued look. Not sure if that makes sense--but I WANTED to see the dark wax variegated, not completed smooth. I felt this added extra texture and depth to the final finish.

This was a custom order, and so it is not for sale.

Tutorial: Sprayed Bronze Black Drawer Pulls

Hey, I actually remembered to get photos for a tutorial!! Wahoo, miracles happen!

So here is a little tutorial for upcycling your exisiting drawer pulls with spray paint. It's pretty durable and a fun way to update old, dated drawer pulls.

And BTW--I just realized I used all Krylon products for this tutorial--just by chance, I'm not being paid or anything, and i I do use lots of different sprays. I guess this just happens to be what I had around at the moment!

Lay out your drawer pulls upside down, or as close as you can get. Always start your knobs upside down.

Ok, anyone see the headache about to happen in this photo??

Yeah, ok, TAKE out the screws so you can flip them upright for the second coat. Now we're ready for the primer.

I use a metal primer for metal pulls. If they were wood I would use odorless, oil based Kilz spray.

Once the bottom is sprayed and dry, flip them over to do the top.

Ok, top done!

Remember, primer is just a sticking coat, not a coverage coat, so it's ok if it doesn't seem solid.

Now on to the pretty coat. I like Krylon's Oil Rubbed Bronze spray because it's more subtle than other bronzed black sprays, but you can use whatever color you like.

Again--flip your knobs over to do the bottoms first so you don't miss any spots or ding up the pretty side by doing it first and then having to flip it over. Your goal is to not have to touch the knobs at all once you spray them do you don't chance putting dings or fingerprints on them.

And spray with 2 coats of spray paint. Once they're dry, flip and do the tops.

This cute little 10 drawer dresser is painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Emperor's Silk and then Clear Waxed and Dark Wax Glazed (Dark wax with mineral spirits). It is a custom order and not for sale.

OK, so my computer has been rebelling lately, and it locked me out of my blog for 4 days! Turns out I picked up a virus somewhere . . . Yuck!

Suede Finish Boy's Dresser

Lately I have been absolutely addicted to creating a soft, suede finish with the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

It doesn't just looke like suede, but the texture is absolutly scrumptious as well!

This is accomplished with a tinted wax finish and no buffing. Most Annie Sloan Stockists offer classes on these advanced techniques, so I won't go into too much detail.

But wow! Love, love this look!

Top stain was Kona by Rustoleum, wiped back as much as possible. With 3 coats of Rustoleum Matte finish poly. This is going to be a changing table, we were going for super scrubability.

Bottom was Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Aubusson Blue with Old White Tinted wax finish. Not buffed at all to preserve the matte, suede feel and look.

This is for a little boy's nursery. I think it almost looks like denim.

This was a custom order, ergo it is not for sale.

But I can always make one Just for YOU. ;)

Vintage Rocker

Yeah, OK. It's 2:48 am so you're just gonna get some pics today . . . but I was so giddy over how cute this rocker turned out, I had to share.

That, and I've been sort of MIA lately as the store has take over my life! I'm trying out this semi-swing shift schedule. I've been going back to work at 10 when my hubby gets home from classes and working till 2 am. Then he lets me sleep in till 9 or 10 while he gets up with the kids. I'll let you know how it goes.

So far much better than my plan to get up early and paint. My will power before 9 am??? Doesn't exist. But it's all for a good cause. I want to be with my kids as much as possible, and that means working while they're asleep.

Embracing Art Deco

Ok, so let's admit it, there's A LOT of art deco furniture out there . . . and well with our love of all things curvy, frilly, french, and embellished . . . these pour little guys often get passed by.

But really, they do have potential! A little paint goes a long way . . . And the quality!!!

Don't be afraid to get artsy fartsy

I have to laugh each time a new customer who's not familiar with the whole "shabby chic" look says

"you want it to look like that?"

"That's not finished right?"

"What color will you paint this?"

(on a finished shabby item)

Well, today I put out a piece on my sales floor that I just love! And I did something I don't normally do, I hand painted the trim and I purposefully wanted the edges to look hand painted.

Because, well, in 18th century France they didn't have Graco HVLP spray guns. At least I'm pretty sure.

Well, maybe in a Doctor Who episode.

Painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint French Linen with Old Ochre trim. Clear Wax followed by Dark Wax.

And man o' man I love what the dark wax does to these colors!! If you aren't a dark wax fan or you've had a hard time working with it, I really suggest you talk to your local stockist or take a class. It can be intimidating, but one once you get the knack of it, what an amazing difference!

laminate top? don't get scared

Get brutal! Let er' rip! Get out your chisel and hammer--or better yet, your steam iron and a wet cloth and get that baby off. Who know what you might find . . .

This desk had a laminate top on it and my hubby ripped it off. He sanded down the raised edges (that thin little dark line on the edge) till they were flush. He stained the top in Kona from Rustoleum and painted the bottom in Primer Red from Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. All was clear waxed, with extra coats of dark on bottom and clear again on top.

too fun!! Don't be intimidated by laminate, you can paint it with your Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, or just rip it off and see what might be hiding!

Sepia Toned Chalk Paint Calendar

I can't take credit for this idea--that goes to Melanie Royals by way of Pinterest by way of Martha S.

But I Loved it and had to copy---

I chose to use Graphite, French Linen, and Old Ochre in random amounts to create a sepia toned look for my store calendar-- yeah I know it only has 6 days of the week. We only work mon-sat so I saw no point in wasting space on a day that would always be blank . . . Since supposedly Sunday is my day of rest . . .yeah, right.

4 kids under 6?? not a chance.

And I didn't tape since I wanted it to look hand painted . . . OK I was just really trying to get this done in the 10 minutes I had till the nanny needed to go home . . . but we can pretend it was on purpose, right?

Please ignore the staples coming through the frame.

Sometimes I still get surprised . . .

OK, by this point I've done a few hundred pieces of furniture, so I usually know about how something is going to turn out.

I gotta say this is way up there for one of my favorite transformations!

The original hardware was very heavy and Gothic. It had been painted several times, with the last coat coming off badly.

I just wasn't sure I was going to be able to lighten it up enough to give it a modern feel.

The original glass was missing and there was no back on it.

The glides on both bottom drawers were broken so the drawers fell out.

Well, what do you think now?

Worth saving wasn't she?

This pretty lady got a new coat of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Mostly Pure White with a bit of Old Ochre--which, yes I know is basically Old White, but I wanted to use up a bunch of almost empty cans. ;)

New satin black drawer pull and knobs. The door pulls in the center are original, I just removed the back plate and sprayed them with satin black spray paint.

Painting tip of the day?

Salvage old drawer pulls by cleaning them well and then spraying them first with metal primer and next with several coats of spray paint. Clear Coat with poly, it's less likely to chip than crafting clear coat spray.

I added a back and painted it taupe for a two tone effect.

Chicken wire gives it a fun pie safe feel.

And of course, new drawer glides added so this baby tracks straight.

Yeah, this is how the conversation runs in my mind every time I take every almost empty can of white paint I have and throw it all together on a piece.

Yeah, I paint like my mom cooks.

OH, a dash of this and a hint of that. And a chug chug of what ever this is. And hum, I wonder what this would do???

Oops, how can I fix that? Well maybe I'll just throw in some of this.

Wow! I love it!

And I'll probably never be able to do it again. . .

That was what I thought of the buffet I painted in Chateau Grey with a mixed paint and wax finish in this post.

I loved it, but could I do it again???

Well, I had to try . . .

And practice makes perfect!! I even picked up a new love--not buffing the wax to a shine. We Americans . . .we're soo shiny. Look at our teeth.

What about a nice, soft, suede finish? Really, if you're in town, you've got to come by and give this thing a feel.

Hum, velvety like a truffle! Which I wouldn't mind having a box of right now. Chocolates, not fungus.

Hand waxed--really. That's why you get the waxing brush!

Makes the job soooo much easier.

Confession time?!

I HATE waxing without the brush. I just can't seem to get it right. Too much, too little, takes forever. . . With the brush?? Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy.

Another Before and After

Not much to share today! I've been one crazy crafting diva lately, and all my creativity has seeped through my fingers into the furniture and none is left in my brain to write!

So today I'm sharing a simple before and after in hopes of inspiring you to remember--look for lines and style when shopping for furniture to upcycle. Forget the cosmetic stuff.

Channel your inner Child

Ok, so I've been feeling pretty formal lately, so I thought it was time to bring in some fun colors . . .

But first I'm gonna have to tell you about how I found my inner child . . .

Ok, really I just want a chance to talk about my kids--'cause that's what all moms love to do right??

Last night while I was making a batch of brownies, my kids thought it was funny to start bringing the couch cushions into the kitchen. Well, all four of them were playing so nicely together, I didn't have the heart to stop them. I stepped out of the kitchen for a few minutes. Then James my "informer" came to tell me to come see what they had done.

Yep, I never knew I led such a cushioned life. That's my kitchen with wall-to-wall cushioning.

Well, I decided to make the best of it. I lay down and tried my darnest to convince the kids it was nap time. Maybe that didn't work, but we did have fun playing blanket forts for awhile.

Finally I set the timer for cleaning up. And would you believe for the first time in the existence of our family--

they actually all helped--without crying???

Even my baby helped take the pillows back upstairs!

And here they're laughing because they were "sooo silly" putting the seat cushions on top and the top cushions on bottom.

You, know I learned something. I really underestimate the capability of my children sometimes! Of course promises of ice cream and brownies helped their motivation.

Ok, thanks for letting me blab. Back to furniture!!

This is my Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Provence Set.

I actually used a custom mixture of about every AsCP color to make the brown--with a bit of brown and black latex thrown in. I was trying to match a customer's bench, so I had a LoT left over since I kept having to mix more to get the right color!

The top blue is Provence chalk Paint. I heavily distressed it just for kicks and giggles. The drawer pulls are new.

Another Happy Ending!

I used a technique learned in the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Workshops or in her books that involves adding paint to the wax. Colors were Chateau Grey as the base and Old white mixed with French Linen in the wax.

Definitely, I've gotta say, I'm not really a "class" person--the whole ADHD thing really doesn't jive well with listening and following directions, but I would definitely recommend taking a class from your local stockist if you haven't already.

When I received my official training as a local retail partner, I thought I was pretty good.

But WOW!

There is so much more to learn. I really think of this paint as so much more than just paint--more like an entirely different medium.

There is so much more that just slapping on the paint with a brush that you can do-

Not to say that you can't just slap it on and get something beautiful!

The Scene: it's 7:00 pm. I have 2 kitchen cabinets left to paint. And I'm out of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

Oh, The Agony!!

Oh, what to do? What to do??

Wait . . . A thought . . .

You can thin down thick Annie Sloan Chalk Paint with water right?? Well, I have lots of dried Chalk Paint on my tarp . . .

What if . . .

Hum, would it work???

Well Let's see . . .

Scoop it up!

Uh--BTW a clean brush works better for this . . .

Add some WARM WATER--

Next time I need this trick I'll use warmer water--you know that whole heat being a catalyst of change thing from 10th grade Chemistry?

Oh, doesn't this photo look so candid?? NOT AT ALL like my mom told me to stand and look thoughtful and hold the can with my right hand so you can see the label . . . oh no.

Totally spontaneous.

Have you ever tried to spatula with your left hand when your right handed (or visa verse)?? Not easy.

Blend on high for about . . . oh a long time.

Voila!! I got her done! The reconsituted paint was very gritty, but I was able to sand this away with some 320 Grit sandpaper. Definitely a nice little trick in a tight spot!!

Runway vs. Off the Rack

I know I've discussed this before, but I just thought I'd revisit the topic since I had such a pretty set of models!

As a blogger I am constantly wanting to push the edge of furniture fashion. Really, If I thought I could sell it I'd do some crazy colored piece of furniture every time!! I'd love nothing better than to try out my creativity with each piece.

But even I can admit not everyone has a place for an apple green buffet with gray chevon stripes . . .

But as a business woman, and mom who is trying to support her family during my hubby's graduate school years, I know I have to produce furniture that speaks to the largest amount of people: Enter stage left white, black, and tan.

So when my hubby brought home these two dressers last week I made a deal with him. One would get the off-the rack treatment. And one would get

Jessica-ized.

(yeah, that's a real word--well it is now, because I used it and you understood it.)

BWAHaHaHaHaHa! (Crazy artist laugh.)

The Classic Beauty

Believe me, I get the appeal of white . . . Love this look! The dark stain is Kona from Rustoleum and hand waxed with Annie Sloan's Clear Wax. The white is . . well um, "a little bit o' this and a little bit o' that let's clean out all the white almost empty gallons I have around" color. I really do love this look--I just get easily bored painting out of the same can every week. ;)

She used Aubusson Blue Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, with Dark wax, but when I got ready to paint I realized I had left my Aubusson Blue at home and all I had was a 50-50 mix of Aubusson Blue and Old White left over from a previous order.

Close 'nuf!

I clear waxed and then dark waxed it, and added new knobs.

I guess I'll always be walking a thin line between Runway and off the Rack--but isn't that what all the best designers do??

Owning your own Business = an excuse to buy toys!!

Really, we all love new toys right?? Am I the only one who gets giddy over new drills, routers, & gathering feet?? Oh, the joy of having

THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB.

Seriously--have you ever tried to hand gather 9 yards of netting for a tutu??? Two words. Gathering Foot.

Aaaah, yeah.

Why to the pros make it look so easy--

well for one--experience.

But a BIG two is having the right tool.

And the right tool usually costs $$

Wait, let me fix that.

$$$$$$$$$.

Yep, that should cover it.

But as a business owner,

often having the right tool will save big bucks in the long run.

The estimates I got for a new sign were over $1,000!!!

Well, I got a new $399 Cricut (paid $199 on sale) and some oops! paint I did it myself for a whole lot less.

And I got a Cricut out it!

How we got it UP there--well that's another story.

The bottom of the sign it 13' in the air!!

Let's just say I could only watch my hubby standing on a ladder--which was on top of our trailer--which was riding up on the sidewalk--on a very busy street-- for as long as it took to take this picture!

I was way too nervous to watch.

So, back to excuses to buy new tools.

Back in November I got an order to paint and reupholster

Well, I've always made do with my 18 gauge stapler for upholstery, but it doesn't really do well in tight spots. So I decided this was the perfect time to go big!

I got my self a REAL upholstery stapler. A Fasco F1-B. Yippee!!

See how much wood I had to staple into?? That 1/4" edge? Yikes. Definitely warranted a REAL upholstery stapler.

This is after I had painted it in

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Duck Egg Blue

and then clear and dark waxed it.

Little Blue

Here's a pretty redo I finished last night. This little beaut is painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint 1/2 old white and 1/2 Aubusson Blue, with first clear wax and then dark wax to seal it. I love this color!

So much so, I'm hoping to convince my little purple and pink princesses to do their room in it . . . OK, that's a long shot. ;) But I can dream right??

Not many words of wisdom today except that vintage decor stores and 4 kids under 6 don't mix. So I'll go ahead and apologize to everyone who got to witness the chaos, mayhem, and destruction that is my kids. And my accompanying flustered behavior. Yeah, I have a hard time structuring a coherent sentence while being pecked to death by baby chicks.

Funny that.

Luckily I only had to buy one broken item from a vendor this time. ;p

New Years Resolution Day 5: Look For Marshmallow Clouds

Ok, I guess I need a little back story with that title . . .

One day as I was making dinner, my kids were crying. Not just crying.

Wailing. Shrieking. Biting. Fighting. Flopping on the ground.

All I wanted to do was be a good mom. Make them dinner. Feed them with love and nourishment. How is a mom supposed to do that when she can't even walk from the sink to the stove without 3 or 4 children clinging to her pants like there was a tornado coming??

The thought hit me. I'll just be a grandma for a moment. I grabbed a bunch of mini-marshmallows and threw them in the air and screamed!

The room was silent.

Then awareness hit my children.

MOM just threw CANDY on the floor.

Suddenly squeals of delight and laughter! They forgot their misery and I bought myself enough time to get dinner on the table.

So now when the kids are over the top, we grab a bunch of candy and ask, "Hey, does anyone see M & M clouds??" It works. Believe me when you have 4 kids under 6 you'll get creative too.

What does all this have to do with a New Years Resolution?? Well, I'm learning that sometimes the secret to happiness is letting go of all the written and unwritten rules in our lives.

No, you don't feed your child candy before dinner.

No, you don't ignore the dishes so you can sit and wrestle with your kids.

No, you don't let your child sleep in whatever they want--we have pajama's.

No, you don't go to the grocery store without makeup. Someone might see you.

No, you don't close your store on the busiest shopping day of the year to be with family.

No, you don't . . .

There are so many things we hold ourselves to. Sometimes it helps to take a lesson from kids and let go of all those rules. So, heck, if you want to wear a princess costume 6 days in a row and eat your sandwich top to bottom instead of side to side, why not.

Choose your battles and

stick with what's important.

Let the other stuff go.

New Year's Resolution Day 4: Remember Who You Are

Ok, so am I the only one who took till 29-and-holding to realize I don't have to try to be someone else??

Oooooh, but I've always wanted soooo badly to be that uber cute, always perfectly styled, always says the right thing girl with a perfectly manicured house.

Hum, yeah. Not so much.

I will always HATE doing my hair and makeup. I will occasionally be capable of coming up with a super chic and fashion forward outfit.

Occasionally being about once every few years.

And I will always have brain-to-mouth filter problem.

Hello foot, meet mouth.

That's me. And I'm learning to love who I am. So what if most of my clothing is covered with paint. I had a BLAST getting it there. And I may say too much sometimes and chat people's head off, but I've been the opposite--the person who kept it all inside. And I choose to be a chatty cathy.

And the Most Liberating Acceptance of ALL--

I give you all PERMISSION to adapt this motto.

I KNOW what it takes to keep my house perfectly clean.

And . . .

I. Am. Not. Interested.

Let me repeat:

I. Am. Not. Interested.

Yep, I said it. I CHOOSE to have a sloppy house. Absolutely liberating and empowering. I no longer have that nagging sensation to clean constantly.

Yep, go ahead. Feel free to steal.

Now let's put that in perspective. I still clean my bathroom every other week (used to be every week, but then I had kids. Bye, bye free time.) I still do between 1 and 3 loads of dishes everyday and 14-20 loads of laundry every week. Sweep every day. . .

I just don't bother with the daily mopping, constant toy picking up, couch reassembling, and bed making and that sort of gibberish.

Yep. I know who I am and I happy to be me. Well most of the time. I could do with out the varicose veins and carpel tunnel. ;p

Here's an ugly duckling redo for fun. I wanted to feature it with today's resolution because it has so many elements that I love. Basic clean lines, Neutral beachy colors, and a pop of modern in the black drawer pulls.

Also I think this is one of my favorite stylings I've done. I just love the way the geometric lines come together with all the architectural salvage. A pop of silver. A pop of blue. And my boy. This picture is not for sale. It's reminds me of my little 5 year old rascal who is always getting in trouble, but so sweet about being sorry later. ;)

New Year's Resolution Day 3:

“fix it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.”

Gotta love that Pioneer logic!

Tomorrow I'm sure I'll be full of profound thoughts and inspirations . . . full of advice making do with less . . . but right now I'm drawing a Big. Fat. Blank.

So here's a fun little idea a customer showed me and then I looked up on pinterest. . . turning ugly 1980's entertainment centers into play kitchens. I love the idea of turning something that NOBODY wants anymore into a fantastic STURDY toy for the kids.

Really, if you have distructo-matic kids like mine then sturdy counts for a whole lot.

We were up till 5 am on Christmas Eve working on this for the twins, and then we missed the big surprise when we slept in and the kids woke up before us!!!

Entertainment Center turned Play Kitchen

A flip down table for snacking, A hand painted clock with working hands (sorta working, they flop) and stamped numbers, and a little shelf for pretties.

(With much cuter shelf brackets coming as soon as I figure out the incredibly smart place I put them so I wouldn't lose them.)

I trimmed down an old wooden window to fit and added a picture of my mom's backyard and curtains. Justin did 90% of the work, converting the dark glass tower to a fridge/freezer, added the sink and burners and flipped the hinges on the storage cabinets so the oven would flip down.

I decided on neutral retro colors since I have one Purple princess and one Pink Princess, so I didn't want to favor color over the other. ;)

And yep, we will make you one. ;)

Pamper Yourself like a Princess

So often we give, give, give to others--

it's hard to remember that it's OK to give to ourselves once in awhile.

My favorite indulgence??

Taking an extra 5 minutes in the shower to do an

over-the-counter microdermabrasion facial. Love it!

I think often it's easy to justify the money, time, and effort spent on doing something for someone else, but harder to justify doing it for ourselves.

So this year make the pledge to take an extra moment to do something special for yourself--even if it is just giving yourself the day off.

Yep, even as a stay-at-home mom I would occasionally 'allow' myself a day off to do nothing but watch 6 hours of Pride and Prejudice--excepting of course when I had to take care of the necessities of life for my babies--i.e. food, diapers, loves . . .

No laundry, let the dishes pile up,

let the toys be strewn far and wide.

It'll all be there tomorrow.

This year remember to treat yourself like a Princess.

Really, Christmas is this weekend?

Well, I guess I better start on Christmas for my own kids, huh??

Good thing is since they're 1, 3, 3, & 5, they'll be happy with a bunch of $1 toys from the dollar store!! We have pretty big ideas for stuff we want to build, but we'll see if it all happens. ;)

I've been working like mad on custom orders for other folks, but I'm managed to fit in a few new goodies for the shop!

Here's a fun little 4 drawer dresser I painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Coco and then brushed in hints of French Linen & Duck Egg for kicks and giggles.

Also I REALLY have been dying to use the blue crackle knobs I found at Hobby Lobby awhile ago. I painted the top 9 knobs Duck Egg--well in all honesty-- I painted them . . .

Are you ready for this??

First I Brasso'ed them to see if I just wanted to leave them brass colored.

Nope. So I sprayed them . . .

Bronzed Black . . .

Then

Duck Egg . . .

Then Distressed them and too much Duck Egg came off so I had a little black bulls eye in the center.

Then I tried Step two again.

Still had a bull's eye.

so I painted them AGAIN in Duck Egg.

Add a couples steps of Shellac in there.

Yeah. I painted them like 6 times.

Even those of us who paint 10 pieces of furniture a week have those problem pieces.

But here they are in all their Duck Egg Glory!

Being Converted

Ok, so I gotta admit when I first started with the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint I wasn't totally sold on the dark wax. I like the colors so much I didn't want to see them change.

But I've been converted. Simply because after my training I learned that this paint is so much more than paint. Now I'm having a blast discovering all the 'looks' you can achieve.

What one of my faves?? Graphite straight to dark wax.

TIP: I find if I thin out the wax a bit with mineral spirits it's easier to achieve a smooth, non-streaky finish. And remember to be generous with your first coat so that the wax won't dry out before you wipe it back. And if it does a bit of mineral spirits helps revive it.

So, here's a gorgeous buffet I worked on this week:

Isn't it gorgeous! I love the soft black you get with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Graphite straight to dark wax.

The Finish Details

This ~~little~~ Big baby was painted in Old Ochre on the door fronts & Trim, and a mix of Graphite & Old Violet on the display shelves. I added a French Linen Wash in the door front & Trim details. Everything was lightly distressed. I poly coated it all before antiquing it with Dark Wax.

Here's the before Pic! Well sort of, I had already taken off the glass doors on the center piece, cabinet doors on the right hand side and flip down door on the left and side. I still have them so if I ever sell this I can put them back on. ;)

Old Violet

. On to my furniture feature of the day!

When I saw this little lady while I was out 'picking' last week, it didn't take me two blinks to know I had to have her!! Sorry I didn't get a 'before' pick. (We already discussed by ADHDness, so no need to rehash that here, right?)

I am crazy in love with her lines, her rustic top, her shiny little keyhole. sigh. Love.

I painted this little lady in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Old Violet and went straight to a thinned down layer of Dark Wax, then I followed up with the Clear Wax for durability. Drawers are fabric lined, but I didn't get a photo. ;) New knobs add a bit o' flare if I do say so myself, although I didn't catch till photoshop that one of them is feeling a wee bit tipsy.

Oh well, still love her even if she is a bit of a lush. ;p

This baby has already sold. :)

Christmas Open House

Which was a fabulous blast!!

My free gift bags:

Included was an easy to make stocking stuffer or gift topper idea. I decorated this small reed box and attached a card for the giver to write a sweet wish for the person they are giving it to. Then they can place the card in the box before giving it. ;)

Simple and sweet.

And we had fun playing with Annie's paint during our Demo's. I think I helped a few gals fall in love.

And we brought out a new piece just in time to play my Christmas Playlist!

My Hubby turned this old record player into an Ipod Player. You can just hook her up anytime and start a' rockin'!! The speakers are behind the fabric sides.

Here's the inside, minus the 2 removable shelves. So, yeah, it's has shelves for storing stuff!

This pretty gal is painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Versailles and Dark Waxed.

Original drawer pull is sprayed Bronzed Black.

And see my new info tags?? Now you just have to peek underneath to see what paint colors and finishes I used.

Look at helpful little me. ;P

And here's a perfect little coffee table.

Top is painted in an off-white Annie Sloan Chalk Paint custom mix and distressed a wee-bit on the edges. Bottom is washed in Grey Linen.

Someone asked me just recently how I think of things to post about. And to be honest, I'm so incredibility ADHD, no matter what I'm doing in the back of my mind I'm blogging or status updating.

Funny thought--someone should do a movie where the main character narrates through mental status updates . . . Hum. Maybe I'll be a writer next.

OK, so tonight I had nothing on the brain for a post, but I really wanted to share some of the photos from this latest custom order I've been working on.

Purty, huh? I love the classic colors she choose. And the scroll work? There was a broken trim piece which couldn't be repaired, so she asked me to take if off and just leave the center circles.

I love the contrast!

And to be perfectly honest, I was a bit stressed out about painting the raised parts dark.

Do I stain the raised parts first, then Crisco them to protect them and paint the rest white??

Paint it all white first then free hand paint the raised portions dark?

I decided to go with the first option--because really, I don't freehand paint anything. I don't even like to write memo's with a pen. I'm a computer girl. I want things exact. Perfect. I like doing my taxes because all the numbers fit in their boxes so neatly. (and i always get a big chunk of change back.) I worked as a computer drafter for my dad for awhile. LOVED IT! I could make things perfectly centered to the zillionth degree!

Confession Time. How much of a nerd am I? When I sew I love it when I can back stich into the exact same holes!

Still love me even if I am a nerd? At least I've moved on from the ~~grunge~~ ~~hipp~~y ~~punk rock~~ phases of my life right?? Obsessive nerd can't be that bad.

I mean, compared to grunge, pretty much anything is an improvement, right?

Hum, I'll take this cup of Coco anyday . . .

Here are a few things I've been working on lately . . .

. . . a pretty little custom order bed I did in ASCP Coco with light distressing and clear wax.

I did NOT prime or sand. I cleaned it well with mineral spirits and a scrub pad. Voila! Easy, peasy lemon squeezy.

(post publishing edit: Since someone asked about thinning out the wax with mineral spirits, I thought I'd share my response here:

I'm sorry I follow recipes like my mom--oh a dash of this, and slurp slurp of that! I would start with a tablespoon of mineral spirits to a big scoop of wax. You really can't go wrong. It's up to you how thin you want it. Wax like normal--waiting at least 30 minutes before you buff.

This is a technique I share in my Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Pro Six Workshops if you're interested in hands-on practice. ;)

Love my ASCP! I also tuned the clear wax down to a glaze with mineral spirits as well. Glides on like Buuuuttr.

And here's a pretty little side dresser/table for sale in the Boutique. I actually first painted this Versailles and then dry brushed old white, chateau grey, Versailles, and coco.

And I had a wonderfully camo'ed out side table.

Not exactly the effect I wanted. So I painted it all over again with Country Grey and sand it back a bit to add some dimensions. And new handles of course. I finished with a clear wax layer.

Inside of drawers is painted Old Violet.

Too cute, huh??

Honestly, I was in the paint booth till 1:30 am last night! And then I only quit b/c the hubby called and gave me a curfew. ;P

I'm having soo much fun discovering all that you can do with Annie's paint. I sorta feel like one of those super obsessive artists who puts off eating, drinking, and sleeping in favor of painting! Don't worry, I won't cut my ear off, k?

But really, it's addictive folks. It's just such a wonderful feeling when I have worked and kneaded a piece of furniture and taken it from blah to Wow! in just an evening.

And of course there are those tough love moments. No matter how hard I tried to fool myself into thinking my little side table read "Vintage Italian", I just had to face up to the facts in the end. My creative genius had created a beautiful dry brushed faux Camo. (faux camo--Is that redundant?) Not such a fan of hunting when i get to be a hunting widow every year. Camo side tables? Yeah . . . No.

See this adorable country table I redid yesterday??

The top was washed in watered down French Linen for a cerused oak effect, and then dark waxed. Followed by 2 coats of clear wax for durability.

The bottom was painted in the new Barcelona Orange!! Arrived in store yesterday. I added dark wax directly on top, followed by a glaze of clear wax.

I teach all these techniques in my Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Workshops.

I just had to share some pics from my first Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Workshop! These gals were fantastic and very patient as I tried not to bury them in my ASCP exuberance! They had a blast practising 3 basic chalk paint techniques on molding pieces and then letting their creative light shine on a home decor item to take home.

Here's my new little "classroom" I set up next to my "paint booth" in the back of the store. Nancy from Artworks Spokane is my ASCP mentor, and she was there to help out if I needed it--which I did a few times. There is soooo much to know about Chalk Paint--even I'm still learning! Nancy is one of the national trainers for Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and has known Annie for years.

(See my cute little concrete mushroom I did in Antibes Green, dark grey (custom mix) & Dark wax?? I also did a Provence blue one to match later on. Won't they be cute as bookends??

Top is stained in Kona from Rustoleum and bottom is painted in ASCP Emperor's Silk then clear waxed twice, finished by a rub of dark wax. Um, um, Yum!

Ok, so probably not. I'll give you credit for figuring out that I used a

vintage glass door knob!

I've had this knob around since last spring. I kept trying to find a way to use it . . . On a four poster bed post? As a hook on a shelf? No matter how hard I tried, it just never seemed quite right.

Then today as I was finishing up this little sewing machine stand, I realized it had found a home.

Perfect, don't you think???? Just enough quirk to make it stand out, but not so much as to be trying too hard. I love it when magic happens.

This little girl got a coat of French Linen, then a custom mix of 1/2 Arles & 1/2 Napolean Blue, & Clear Waxed.
